The Crisis Twin is a natural TWIST of the Mid Length Crisis, originally designed to be ridden as a 2+1 setup. Over time, riders increasingly experimented by placing twin keel fins in the forward boxes, which revealed a completely different feel underfoot. However, that fin positioning wasn’t ideal for balance and performance, which led to the development of the Crisis Twin: a dedicated twin-fin version of the MLC focused on speed and flow.
The original shape already translated naturally into a twin-fin concept - a semi-traditional outline with a wide point forward, sleek and performance-oriented for fast, down-the-line drive, yet still full-bodied enough to maintain stability and glide in weaker, slower surf. Subtle refinements were introduced to enhance this behavior, including a slightly pulled-in nose outline to increase curve for tighter carving, along with added nose rocker to improve freedom in steeper sections and late drops.
The board paddles easily and responds with a loose, lively feel. It features a refined foil running from a beaked nose through to a round tail, combined with a rolled deck that preserves volume through the center for paddle power, while more finely foiled rails increase sensitivity and bite when on rail.
Its outline is a continuous, clean arc with no hips or wings, maintaining uninterrupted flow through turns and rail transitions.
The rocker is a moderate, continuous curve from nose to tail, without abrupt changes or kick. This keeps paddling efficient, promotes natural speed generation, and supports smooth, controlled turning across a wide range of conditions.
Underneath, the bottom contours consist of a mild vee blended with double concave - often referred to as “Spiral Vee.” This configuration encourages easy rail-to-rail transitions and helps the board link turns smoothly and predictably, making it accessible across skill levels.
Overall, the Crisis Twin is a fast-paddling, fast-driving, highly enjoyable addition to the Velocity Project range. It brings renewed appeal to softer or less defined waves and delivers plenty of performance in long, lined-up surf.
This board can be ridden shorter or longer depending on preference, and slightly wider than a typical daily driver. It performs equally well as a compact, responsive rip stick or as a more relaxed cruiser, adapting to whatever style of surfing you want to explore.
