For playful sessions with an added touch of performance, the Astropop XL is a versatile choice for relaxed, high-spirited surfing across a wide range of wave conditions. The Astro Pop XL is built to provide extra drive and effortless paddling in softer, slower waves, while maintaining a performance-oriented feel and remaining highly enjoyable when the surf picks up. This higher volume version of the Astro Pop is built for stockier surfer or for those who prefer shorter boards for the same volume.
Based on the Astro retro fish model, the Astro Pop XL refines the outline with a more pulled-in nose and tail. A subtle wing tightens the last section of the tail, increasing curve in the outline and enhancing maneuverability while maintaining strong speed potential.
The bottom contour features a deep double concave flowing into a vee out the tail, helping the board sit higher on the water in softer, weaker surf while remaining responsive and easy to engage rail-to-rail at higher speeds. A mild beak nose preserves thickness forward without feeling overly bulky, giving a balanced “daily driver” feel supported by a flatter entry rocker for improved paddle efficiency.
The Astro Pop is typically recommended as a quad for maximum drive and speed, though it is delivered with a 5-fin setup to keep options open. It performs best ridden shorter in length, with added width (around ¾” to 1” wider than a standard shortboard) and slightly increased thickness for extra volume compared to an everyday shortboard.
